Kiwi House resident Barbara Currie is rolling up her sleeves with fellow residents to take part in a gardening competition where she hopes to win up to £200 for the care home where she lives.
The competition is being run by Adept Care Homes for residents at its 7 midlands-based care homes.
“The gardening club is a fantastic idea. It brings people together and gives people responsibility.
Everybody loves the smell and being outside and I love to be very hands-on getting stuck in with my hands and actually feeling the mud,” said Kiwi House resident Barbara.
Adept Care Homes is inviting residents of all gardening experience and ability to join the gardening club.
It sees residents receiving monthly expert gardening tips and advice from their groundskeeper, but this year offering residents the chance to win up to £200 in the tallest sunflower competition and a ‘magic seed’ competition where residents are given a seed to nurture and one chance to guess what they are growing.
