Moat House recognised for caring staff and resident engagement in Care Quality Commission report

Moat House care home in Burbage has been recognised for its “kind, caring and respectful” staff and commitment to engaging residents in its latest report from the UK industry regulator.

The New Road home received an overall ‘good’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) for providing a safe, effective, caring and well-led service following this year’s inspection.

One of the areas highlighted was the home’s dedication to involving residents and supporting their interests through a lively social events programme led by full-time activities co-ordinators.

The inspector said: “A relative told us that their parent had once been reluctant to mix with other people, but since being at Moat House, they participate in music activities and mix with other people which they enjoy”. We saw that people with dementia were supported with ‘reminiscence’ activities and sensory and tactile objects to provide comfort and had access to a sensory garden. These kinds of facilities are recognised as beneficial by research about dementia care.

“People were able to spend their time the way they wanted and their choices were respected. A person told us, “The staff look after me wonderfully”. Another told us, “The staff are kind, caring and respectful”.

Adept Care Homes managing director Dave Lock said: “We focus on making our tagline, ‘a superb place to live or work’, a reality for all of our residents and our whole team, and this report recognises how we go above and beyond to ensure our residents’ needs are fully met.”

Consistently rated the number one residential care home in Hinckley and Bosworth on www.carehome.co.uk, Moat House has Wi-Fi throughout, homely lounges, a café, cinema, hair salon, pub, a 1960s reminiscence kitchen and workshop and large, landscaped sensory gardens with an aviary and moat spinney walk, as well as a strong activities and entertainment programme. The home is also proud to be part of a group hailed one of the London Stock Exchange’s Top 1,000 Companies to Inspire Britain this year.
