Residents at Moat House Care Home in Burbage visited Mallory Park Race Circuit to marvel at the superbike racing whilst reliving some of their fondest memories.
Residents who fondly remember the freedom of the open road aboard their motorcycles were excited to take the care home minibus to the famous Mallory Park, where superbikes race almost weekly and parked up, trackside to watch the racing whilst enjoying a summer picnic, of sandwiches, fresh fruit and a flask of tea.
Diana Hillier (82) a resident who has always lived life in the fast lane, met her husband due to their shared love of motorcycles and passed on their enthusiasm to their son, said “ what a great day out, it brings back so many memories, some of the happiest times of my life have been on the back of a bike with the wind in my hair, just listen to them (the bikes), isn’t it exhilarating!”
“I could sit here and listen to the roar of engines all day, it takes me back to the years I rode to Switzerland and Rome on my bikes with my best friend. What glorious years they were, this takes me back, the smell, the noise,” said Peter Stowe (91) with a smile, a resident at Moat House.
“Many of our residents have a love of motorcycles, today’s experience has been a chance for them to reconnect and enjoy their passions again. Our lifestyle and wellbeing program is designed around our residents, their hobbies and interests and this day has been truly magically for all involved. We are hoping to do it again soon and make it a monthly outing” said Hayley Langley, Home Manager at Moat House Care Home.
