Residents, Terry (81) and Colin (86) from Kiwi House Care Home took their community spirit to new heights by volunteering at the Head Ways Charity Shop in Allenton. Head Ways is a charity dedicated to supporting individuals after brain injuries, providing vital resources and assistance to those in need.

Terry and Colin spent a morning contributing their time and energy to a cause close to their hearts. Their task today? Sorting books and arranging them on shelves, meticulously organising each title by genre and alphabetically. Their enthusiasm and dedication were evident throughout the day as they worked tirelessly to ensure that the shop’s inventory was in top-notch condition.

For many residents of care homes like Kiwi House, finding purpose and remaining engaged with the broader community is paramount to their overall well-being. Volunteering not only offers an opportunity to give back but also fosters a sense of belonging and fulfilment. Terry and Colin’s involvement with Head Ways exemplifies the profound impact that community engagement can have on individuals, regardless of age or circumstance.

“They both loved every moment of it,” shared Helen, Activity & Wellbeing Lead at Kiwi House.

“It feels wonderful to be able to contribute and make a difference, even in a small way.” Colin added, “Being part of something meaningful like this reminds us that we still have so much to offer, even in our later years. We’re already looking forward to our next volunteer shift!”

Kiwi House Care Home is proud to support every resident in their endeavours to remain active members of the community. Their commitment to volunteering at Head Ways is a testament to the enduring spirit and generosity of the human heart.

Moving forward, Terry and Colin plan to continue their volunteer efforts at Head Ways. Their example serves as an inspiration to us all, reminding us of the importance of compassion, camaraderie, and purpose in our lives.
