Leicester City Legends Surprise Moat House Residents with a Trip Down Memory Lane

Moat House Care Home in Burbage, Leicestershire recently had the pleasure of welcoming representatives from Leicester City in the Community, who paid a special visit to surprise two residents: Doreen Jelly (97), widow of Leicester City football star Ted Jelly, and Marianne Harry (91), a lifelong superfan and season ticket holder, of Leicester City Football Club (LCFC).

The visit was a heartfelt tribute to the club’s history and its devoted supporters. Leicester City in the Community brought with them an array of memorabilia and historical artifacts from LCFC’s storied past, providing a unique and nostalgic experience for all.

Doreen Jelly, accompanied by her two sons, granddaughter, and great-granddaughter, was deeply touched by the visit. The family spent hours reminiscing about match days and sharing stories about Ted Jelly, whose contributions to the club have left a lasting legacy.

Marianne Harry, dressed proudly in her LCFC scarf and blanket, was overjoyed by the opportunity to delve into the intimate details behind the club she has passionately supported since she was 17. As a season ticket holder for many decades, “Marianne’s dedication to LCFC is an inspiration to all fans.”

The visitors from LCFC were profoundly moved by the residents’ deep connections to the club. In recognition of this, they extended an invitation to the residents of Moat House Care Home to attend their Silver Foxes Coffee Morning. Additionally, they are working to arrange a special tour of King Power Stadium for these residents in the near future, further strengthening the bond between the club and its loyal supporters.

The visit not only celebrated the rich history of Leicester City Football Club but also highlighted the deep connections between the club and its community. Moat House Care Home is committed to providing enriching person-centred experiences for its residents, and this special event was a testament to the power of sports and memories in bringing people together.
