Kiwi House Care Home in Derby is celebrating a summer of growth, having earned an admirable fifth place in the Adept Care Homes sunflower growing competition. Their sunflower, which soared to an impressive 6 feet 11 inches, brought plenty of smiles and satisfaction to the home.
“The residents put so much love and care into this competition,” said the Jeanette Heath, Home Manager. “Seeing their hard work pay off with a sunflower that nearly reached 7 feet was a wonderful experience for everyone.”
The gardening club plays a vital role in the lives of the residents. Tending to the garden not only provides physical activity but also brings immense joy and satisfaction as residents watch their efforts bloom. This annual competition is a highlight, allowing everyone to come together, share gardening tips, and take pride in their green-thumb achievements.
While Kiwi House didn’t take the top spot, the joy and sense of accomplishment that came with nurturing their sunflower made it all worthwhile. The residents enjoyed the process as much as the result, making the competition a highlight of the summer.
As they look forward to next year, the residents at Kiwi House are already planning how they might reach even greater heights in 2025’s gardening club and company-wide competition.
