Harrier House Care Home in Hucknall proudly marked a memorable milestone on Saturday 14th June, hosting the Nottingham stage of the Great British Care Cycle Relay 2025—a day filled with joy, energy, and heartfelt community spirit.
Organised by Championing Social Care, the national relay brought together care workers, residents, families, and the local Hucknall community to celebrate the vital work of the social care sector and promote health, connection, and pride in care. Harrier House served as both the starting and finishing point for the Nottingham leg of the five-day nationwide event for Care Home Open Week.

Cyclists, including Directors and support team members from Adept Care Homes, set off at 9:00am on a spirited 111km journey across Nottingham, visiting fellow care homes and spreading messages of appreciation and unity across the region. The peloton was cheered off by residents, families, and excited children.
“To see so many people come together for such a meaningful cause was truly inspiring,” said Kenny Nelson, Managing Director of Adept Care Homes. “This event perfectly reflects what the care sector is all about—community, compassion, and connection.”
The morning began with a healthy breakfast station sponsored by Creed Food Services, with residents waving flags and showing support. The atmosphere was equally festive as cyclists returned to Harrier House around 4:30pm, greeted with refreshments, cheers, and handmade banners created by residents especially for the event.
The day was made even more memorable for Harrier House resident Roy Kibble (90), who was given the honour of presenting the riders and sponsors with their well-earned trophies. A lifelong cycling enthusiast and former design engineer who contributed to the development of the very first carbon bicycles, Roy followed the relay closely throughout the day via live updates. For Roy, whose passion for innovation and two wheels has never faded, the chance to be part of the celebration was truly the highlight of his year. His face lit up with pride as he handed over the awards—an emotional moment that perfectly captured the spirit of the day.

“It was a brilliant day full of energy and emotion,” said Samantha Kavanagh, Home Manager. “We’re so proud to have hosted this stage of the relay and to have our team physically riding alongside the cause they work so passionately for every day.”
The event formed part of a larger national initiative leading up to Care Home Open Week 2025, with additional stages in Edinburgh, York, Cardiff, and London. Through Harrier House’s involvement, the local community witnessed firsthand the dedication and heart behind today’s care professionals.
