Residents from Kiwi House Care Home enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon of smiles, stories and marshmallow-toasting during a heartwarming visit to Landau Forte Moorhead Primary School. The outing celebrated the magic of intergenerational relationships — and proved once again that when older and younger generations come together, something truly special happens.

The school welcomed residents with open arms, inviting them into their brand-new log cabin outdoor classroom, complete with a cosy fire pit.
“We were treated to hot chocolate and biscuits, and loved looking through the beautiful photo albums the children had created, showing all their outdoor adventures. To finish off a perfect afternoon, we gathered around the fire to roast marshmallows, joined by the lovely community police officers.
Such a joyful day filled with smiles, stories and new friendships!” said Home Manager, Jenette Heath.
The children proudly shared the photo albums they created, each page filled with nature exploration, teamwork and personal achievements. Residents were touched not only by the creativity on display but also by the children’s eagerness to talk, listen and share their experiences.
After warming up with delicious hot chocolate and biscuits, the group gathered around the fire pit — a cosy setting that encouraged conversation, storytelling and plenty of laughter. The experience was made even more memorable by the visit of local community police officers, who joined in the marshmallow roasting and chat.
One resident described the afternoon simply as “pure joy,” noting how much she loved seeing the children’s excitement and feeling part of their world.
Intergenerational activities like this one are one of the cornerstones of Kiwi House’s approach to meaningful engagement. Bringing older adults and children together has been shown to boost wellbeing, reduce loneliness, spark memories and improve self-esteem for both age groups.
“These moments matter,” said a Jeanette. “You can see the happiness on the residents’ faces. They feel valued, connected and inspired — and the children benefit just as much. It’s a beautiful partnership.
The relationship between Kiwi House Care Home and Landau Forte Moorhead Primary School is one we cherish dearly and I hope there will be many more in the future.”
