There were smiles all around at Moat House Care Home in Burbage as resident Pauline Winter (86) had her heartfelt Make A Wish brought to life with a magical visit from some very special feathered friends.

Pauline first discovered her love of owls over 20 years ago during a visit to a bird sanctuary. Since then, she has built up a treasured collection of owl ornaments and keepsakes, with her passion for the majestic birds remaining as strong as ever.
After a recent conversation about a framed photograph of an owl, staff at Moat House realised just how much Pauline would love the chance to see one up close again — and set out to make her wish a reality.
Their efforts led to a truly unforgettable experience, as Pauline was surprised with a visit from three magnificent owls and a falcon. The home was filled with excitement as residents gathered to meet the birds, learn more about them and enjoy the rare opportunity to interact with such incredible creatures.
For Pauline, the moment was nothing short of magical. She even had the chance to hold and gently stroke the owls, something she described as a dream come true.
Speaking after the visit, Pauline said:
“This is amazing. I loved being able to hold and stroke the owls.”
The experience brought joy not only to Pauline but to everyone in the home, creating a warm and uplifting atmosphere full of wonder and delight.
A spokesperson for Moat House Care Home said:
“It was such a special day. Seeing Pauline’s reaction made it all worthwhile — she was absolutely over the moon. Moments like this are what our Make A Wish programme is all about.”
The visit was a beautiful reminder of the power of meaningful experiences and the importance of celebrating residents’ passions and lifelong interests.
At Moat House Care Home, it’s clear that no wish is too small — and sometimes, the most magical moments come with wings.
