Burbage, Leicestershire, UK – The gardens at Moat House Care Home are blooming brighter than ever, with residents and team members celebrating after growing the tallest sunflower in Adept Care Homes’ 2025 Annual Sunflower Competition – an impressive 9ft 4in (285cm) beauty that soared above the rest.
The victory is a testament to the passion, care, and teamwork that goes into Moat House’s mature and luscious gardens, which are already admired for their vibrant flowers, tranquil seating areas, and vegetable patches lovingly maintained by residents alongside Grounds Manager Richard Mee.

Throughout the summer, the sunflower became the star of the garden, with residents regularly watering, feeding, and cheering it on. Many shared gardening tips and stories from their own past gardens, sparking laughter, conversation, and a sense of pride.
“We’ve worked hard to keep our gardens looking beautiful, and seeing our sunflower grow taller than we imagined was such a thrill,” said one resident. “It’s a joy to sit outside surrounded by all this colour and life.”
As the winning home, Moat House will receive £100 for its residents’ social fund, helping to create even more opportunities for meaningful activities, trips, and celebrations.
“The gardens here are a true reflection of the effort our residents and team put in,” said [Home Manager’s Name]. “They are a source of pride and wellbeing, and this sunflower victory is the perfect reminder of how working together can achieve something truly special.”
With its flourishing greenery and now award-winning sunflower, Moat House’s gardens remain a much-loved feature of daily life – offering residents beauty, purpose, and plenty of sunny smiles.
