Residents at Kiwi House Care Home in Derby have a very special visitor to look forward to each month – Ray, the therapy dog.
This beautiful golden retriever has become a much-loved member of the Kiwi House family, bringing comfort, companionship, and plenty of wagging tails to brighten everyone’s day.

Therapy dogs like Ray provide incredible benefits for care home residents, offering emotional support, reducing stress, and even improving well-being. Interacting with a friendly dog has been shown to help lower blood pressure, boost mood, and encourage social interaction – something that Ray excels at with his gentle nature and affectionate personality.
To make Kiwi House even more welcoming for furry friends, the home has introduced a dog station in the lobby, ensuring that relatives’ pets are just as welcome as Ray. Whether stopping by for a cuddle or enjoying a few special treats, visiting dogs help create a warm, homely atmosphere for everyone.
“We love seeing the joy that Ray brings to our residents,” said Jeanette Heath, Home Manager. “His visits spark so many smiles, conversations, and even memories of much-loved pets from the past. We truly believe in the power of pet therapy, and it’s wonderful to see how much happiness it brings.”
Ray, of course, enjoys his visits just as much as the residents do – especially as he gets plenty of treats during his rounds!
With regular visits from Ray and a pet-friendly approach, Kiwi House Care Home continues to embrace the benefits of animal companionship, making life even more enriching for residents.
