Green-Fingered Resident Anne Helps Gardens Bloom at Local Care Home

At Moat House Care Home in Burbage Leicestershire, one resident is bringing colour, life, and a whole lot of green-fingered passion to the gardens – with a little help from the care home’s Groundskeeper, Richard Mee.

Anne Fairlie (91), a lifelong gardening enthusiast and Moat House resident, has teamed up with Richard to nurture and grow young plants and seedlings that will go on to brighten the grounds of not only Moat House, but also other Adept Care Homes across the Midlands.

Together, Anne and Richard have created a flourishing partnership: Richard provides the seeds and gardening plans, and Anne lovingly tends to the seedlings, caring for them daily, watering, monitoring growth, and ensuring they are strong and healthy before they’re planted outside.

“It’s something I’ve always loved,” says Anne. “Being able to grow something from seed and see it bloom is a wonderful feeling – and knowing these plants will make others happy makes it even better.”

The collaboration began as a simple chat between Anne and Richard over shared gardening interests, and has blossomed into a purposeful, joyful routine that brings Ann both structure and satisfaction.

“Anne has an incredible eye for plants,” said Richard Mee. “She’s genuinely talented and it’s been fantastic working together. Her care and attention make a real difference to the success of the gardens.”

The gardens at Moat House are now a living showcase of Anne and Richard’s teamwork, enjoyed by residents, families, and visitors alike. Adept Care Homes celebrates purposeful activity and community spirit – and Ann’s thriving greenhouse is proof that passion continues to bloom at any age.
