Vera Jolliffe, age 93, a care home resident is celebrating having won a sunflower growing competition.
All 7 of the Adept midlands-based care homes took part in the challenge which saw Vera, who has always been a keen gardener and fellow residents in the Bowood Court & Mews Resident Gardening Club, grow the tallest sunflower of 258cm in height!
‘Wow! We won, this is wonderful news. We just fed our sunflowers really well all summer long, whatever the weather. I think that is the simple secret to our success!’ explained Vera Jolliffe from the Resident Gardening Club.
Dawn Leaver, Bowood Court & Mews Manager added: “I am very proud of our residents for this achievement as well as team members who have helped residents to get involved in the Adept Care Homes annual growing competition. Getting out in the gardens has given residents so much pleasure and has had health benefits too from the gentle exercise it has encouraged. We will enjoy this victory but we’ve really just enjoyed being part of the competition which has given residents plenty to talk and think about,’
