Harrier House Supports Family & Friends with Dementia Awareness Workshop

Harrier House Care Home in Hucknall, Nottinghamshire is holding a FREE friends and family dementia awareness workshop with their dedicated Dementia Manager, Karen Middleton on Wednesday 24th November 2021.

Dementia has a deep impact not only on those who are diagnosed, but also on the people who are closest to them. Family members find themselves having to take on different responsibilities and often find relationships changes.  Many feelings families and caregivers tell us they experience are guilt, grief and loss, and anger. Harrier House wants relatives and friends to be able to ask the questions and know they are supported throughout their loved one’s diagnosis.

Dementia does not change a person’s need for love and affection, in fact for many that need increases.  We recognise that dementia is a continual bereavement and relationships go through many phases with each phase requiring a different approach and response.

We provide support in a variety of different ways and will work with you to find the way which works best for you

This course is intended to give an overview of the common causes, symptoms experiences and how it affects the person and their brain

“It also covers strategies to use with loved ones living with dementia when they are behaving in ways you may struggle to understand. Every person living with dementia is unique and individual and therefore we tailor or support to not only meet the people living in the homes but to their relatives/friend’s as well. We strongly believe at Adept that people can live well with dementia, they just need the support to enable that to happen and that support is what we are here to provide” concluded Karen.

“We want relatives to feel at ease when joining their loved in our home, so they can enjoy the varied and engaging sensory and social activities, such as ‘Singing for the Brain’, ‘Pet Therapy’ and reminiscing sessions as much as our residents do” said Sam Kavanagh, Harrier House Home Manager.
