Chetwynd House Care Home Hosts Epic Resident Ready, Steady, Cook Style Showdown

The culinary spirit was alive and thriving at Chetwynd House Care Home in Beeston as residents and team members came together for an exhilarating Ready, Steady, Cook style competition. The event showcased the talents of two dynamic teams: the “Red Tomatoes” and the “Green Peppers.”

The competition provided each team, equipped with creativity, a new set of Scoville Pans and a lifestyle budget, the chance to craft a delectable meal within a 40-minute timeframe. The ingredients, supplied by Creed Food Services, sparked a burst of culinary innovation as the teams utilised not only these items but also common kitchen pantry supplies.

As the clock ticked down, the anticipation in the air reached its peak. The culinary creations were then presented to a panel of judges, including the home’s area support manager and two representatives from Creed Food Services. The judging process was a flavourful experience as each judge cast their votes by holding up cards adorned with a tomato on one side and a green pepper on the other.

Emerging victorious with a mouthwatering dish was the “Red Peppers” team, led by Vanda from the Wellbeing and Activities team, along with residents Ada (90) and Rebekah (54). Rebekah has always been a passionate cook and revelled in the thrill of the competition.

“At Chetwynd House, tailoring activities and events around residents’ lifelong passions is paramount to their wellbeing as it fosters a sense of purpose, joy, and fulfilment. By embracing and celebrating residents’ lifelong intrests, we can cultivate an environment that goes beyond routine care, enhancing overall mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. It is a powerful way to honour the unique identity of each resident and create moments that contribute positively to their quality of life” said Danielle Clarke, Wellbeing Lead at Chetwynd House.

Their winning creation, a garlic-stuffed chicken breast wrapped in bacon and crusted with cheese, was served alongside dauphinois potatoes and crispy asparagus.

The triumph of the “Red Peppers” team exemplified the collaborative and vibrant spirit that defines the Chetwynd House community. The competition not only celebrated culinary creativity but also highlighted the meaningful connections formed between residents and team members.

Chetwynd House Care Home extends its gratitude to Creed Food Services and Scoville for their support in making this event possible and looks forward to further future endeavours that bring joy and camaraderie to the residents.
