Residents at Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston, Derby, were treated to a vibrant and unforgettable experience as they welcomed a very special visit from Parrots in Need UK.

Paul Morgan and Becki from the charity brought along seven incredible birds, giving residents the opportunity to get up close to some truly beautiful and fascinating creatures. From the smallest guest, Skittles the green cheeked conure, to Sam, the magnificent blue and gold macaw, the visit was filled with excitement from start to finish.
Residents also had the chance to meet Mango the white umbrella cockatoo, Lulu the African Grey, Luna the Australian Galah, and Harry and Billy, the lively Green Amazons. Each bird had its own unique personality, captivating everyone in the room.

For many residents, the visit was a completely new experience, with some bravely holding and stroking the birds for the very first time. The room was filled with laughter and amazement as the parrots interacted with residents and team alike.
One of the standout moments of the day was watching Mango dance along to her favourite song, while Sam delighted everyone by gently giving out kisses — much to the joy of those lucky enough to receive one.
Jeanette Heath, Home Manager at Kiwi House Care Home said:
“It was such a wonderful visit. The residents absolutely loved meeting the birds — it brought so much joy, laughter and excitement into the home. Experiences like this are so important in creating special memories.”
As a token of appreciation, Kiwi House made a donation to Parrots in Need UK, helping to support the charity’s vital work in caring for and rehoming these beautiful birds.
The visit was a colourful, uplifting experience that will be remembered for a long time, proving that sometimes the most unexpected visitors can bring the greatest happiness.
