Residents at Chetwynd House Care Home in Chilwell, Nottingham have enjoyed a truly uplifting and memorable day after taking part in a special Make A Wish sensory swimming trip.

Ada, Rebekah, Brenda and Pat chose swimming as their wish — and their day at the pool proved to be full of joy, confidence-building and achievement. The group attended a dedicated sensory swim session, designed to provide a calm, supportive and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.
The trip was made even more special as residents were joined by friends from Douglas Court Care Home, bringing together two homes for a shared experience filled with laughter and encouragement.
For Ada, the day held particular meaning. Having previously taken part in a similar swim two years ago, she inspired others to give it a try and was thrilled to return to the water once again.
The Chetwynd team who supported the trip were delighted to see all four residents embrace the experience. From the moment they entered the pool, there were smiles all around as they relaxed, enjoyed the sensory environment and cheered each other on.
Jordele Folkes, Home Manager said:
“It was incredible to see how much everyone got out of the experience. Ada’s enthusiasm really encouraged the others, and it was lovely to watch friendships grow while residents built confidence and had fun.”
The sensory session provided the perfect setting for residents to feel comfortable and supported, allowing them to fully enjoy the moment at their own pace.
The day was a shining example of how meaningful experiences — especially those shared with others — can boost wellbeing and create lasting memories.
Everyone at Chetwynd House is celebrating the success of the trip and looks forward to many more Make A Wish moments in the future.
Because sometimes, taking the plunge leads to something truly special.
