Residents at Douglas Court Care Home, in Derby recently enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of creativity and companionship as they welcomed students from Pear Tree School for a special intergenerational arts and crafts session.
The visit brought together residents and pupils to spend quality time creating colourful artwork, sharing stories and building meaningful friendships across the generations. The activity encouraged conversation, laughter and teamwork, with everyone enjoying the opportunity to express their creativity while getting to know one another.
Throughout the session, residents and students worked side by side on a variety of arts and crafts projects, exchanging ideas and encouraging each other’s creativity. The relaxed and welcoming atmosphere allowed friendships to flourish, with many residents delighted to hear about the students’ hobbies, interests and school life, while sharing stories and experiences of their own.
Intergenerational activities are an important part of life at Douglas Court, providing opportunities for residents to connect with younger members of the community while promoting social interaction, wellbeing and mutual understanding. These sessions are enjoyed by both residents and visiting children, creating lasting memories and strengthening community relationships.

The afternoon was a great success, leaving residents and students with beautiful artwork to remember the day by and strengthening the special bond between Douglas Court Care Home and Pear Tree School. Both groups are already looking forward to their next opportunity to get creative together.
