6th February 2018: Residents at family-run, The Old Vicarage Care Home, which offers award-winning luxury and quality care, have been delighted by their youngest visitors yet.
A group of babies and toddlers spent over an hour with residents as part of an intergenerational project. As well as lots of cuddles, residents enjoyed singing and playing with the youngsters.
Mary Pullan, resident said: “It was wonderful to see and play with the little ones. I really liked having a cuddle with one baby boy, he was just beautiful and exactly 100 years younger than me! I’m looking forward to seeing all of them again and hopefully will get to see them as they change and grow.”
“This is an exceptional project which combines volunteering with forging links in our local community,” explained Karen Betts, Old Vicarage Manager. “We are delighted to welcome the children and their carers and the delight they bring to our residents is clearly evident when you look around and see smiling, happy faces. Much has been made of intergenerational projects which unite the old and the young and this is fantastic example of making it work in a simple but extremely effective way and definitely helps us meet our aim of being a superb place to live or work.”
A local group of mums wanting to volunteer with their children formed the initiative ‘Big Little Smiles’ and plan to visit residents at The Old Vicarage weekly.
