Chetwynd House Care Home is Making A Run for It!
The team at Chetwynd House in Chilwell, Nottingham are running or walking the length of the United Kingdom to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Society.
The team started the sponsored walk in August on a treadmill with the aim of completing the 874 miles by the end of September. Courtney Tideswell who loaned the treadmill said “Anything I could do to help; dementia is a big part of our lives and it affects so many and it’s a great way for all the relatives and friends of the home to get involved by sponsoring us.”
“At Chetwynd House we are dedicated to helping all our residents, relatives and team members who are affected by dementia. We also want to raise awareness of the effects lockdown have had on those suffering with dementia.” – said Karen Middleton, Dedicated lifestyle and Dementia Manager.
Since lockdown began Alzheimer’s Society has called on the Government to put people with dementia at the heart of lockdown solution, as the devastating impact of isolation on health is revealed. Other care homes have reported that the lack of social contact is causing deterioration in the health and wellbeing of their residents with dementia.
“At Chetwynd House, our residents are the heart of everything we do. We are determined to keep social activity and family interaction as a priority wherever possible and as part of Adept care homes, we were one of the first care homes in the UK to develop and implement our safe and socially distanced garden visiting scheme to help combat lockdowns effects,” concluded Dave Godrich, Home Manager of Chetwynd House.
