Douglas Court Resident Paul Leads the Way Following Adept Care Homes’ Sustainability Award Win

Derby, UK – After Adept Care Homes was proudly named “Best for Sustainability”, one resident at Douglas Court Care Home is being recognised for playing a big part in making that happen.

Paul Davies (60), a long-time resident and passionate environmentalist, has become the beating heart of Douglas Court’s green efforts. As the enthusiastic leader of the home’s Gardening and Sustainability Group, Paul has been instrumental in bringing sustainable practices to life — from composting and recycling to planting pollinator-friendly flowers and herbs for the kitchen.

Adept Care Homes’ recent national win for sustainability shines a spotlight on the efforts of teams and individuals like Paul, whose hands-on leadership and infectious enthusiasm continue to inspire others across the home.

“I was honoured when I heard we’d won,” Paul said. “It means a lot to be part of something bigger — and I can’t wait to keep leading by example and showing what we can achieve together.”

Paul is often found outdoors — tending raised flower beds, sharing gardening tips with fellow residents, or discussing new sustainability ideas with staff. His efforts have helped reduce waste, improve green spaces, and turn the Douglas Court garden into a peaceful, eco-friendly haven for all.

“Paul is an incredible role model,” said the Home Manager. “His passion motivates everyone around him — residents, visitors, and staff alike. He reminds us that age is no barrier to making a real impact.”

As Adept Care Homes continues to lead the way in sustainable care, residents like Paul are proving that meaningful contribution and leadership can flourish at every stage of life.
