Peter Newlove (87), a resident at Chetwynd House Care Home, had a lifelong wish granted when he was given the opportunity to see a Spitfire once again—just like the ones he worked with during his time in the Royal Air Force.
Thanks to the home’s ‘Make A Wish’ program, Peter enjoyed a special trip to the RAF Museum, where he was able to relive cherished memories and stand beside the iconic aircraft that once soared through the skies. Seeing the Spitfire up close was an emotional and unforgettable moment, bringing back the pride and excitement of his service days.
“Today has been absolutely marvellous, it’s brought back many memories I can’t thank you all enough,” said Peter with a big smile on his face.

“It was truly an honour to help Peter reconnect with such an important part of his life,” said Danielle Clarke, Activity Lead at Chetwynd House. “His face lit up the moment he saw the Spitfire, and it was incredible to hear him share his experiences of flying these legendary aircraft.”
At Chetwynd House Care Home, ensuring residents can revisit their passions and relive meaningful experiences is at the heart of what they do. Peter’s story is a reminder of the remarkable lives and histories that care home residents carry with them—and the joy that comes from celebrating them.
