We’re delighted to welcome Kate Gilvear as our new home manager. Kate comes to us highly qualified, with a clinical background in mental health and palliative care.
Kate has also achieved strong Leadership and Management skills, and her goal is to make a difference in the lives of people living with dementia. “I have worked in the health and social care sector for 19 years and my real passion is working with Dementia care,” said Kate.
She has undertaken a variety of roles within health and social care that have brought her into contact with people affected by dementia. She started her career as a carer but Kate didn’t stop there, working as a senior carer, a rehab support worker, and then on to deputy manager and finally registered manager.
Kate’s main priority for Douglas Court is to improve upon its already happy environment where residents feel genuinely at home while supporting colleagues to develop their skills and be genuinely inspired by their work. Kate is also keen for the home to achieve a CQC Outstanding rating – in all five categories.
She loves interacting with residents. “Nothing beats walking around supporting and talking with residents,” she says. “If you have a bad day or feel stressed, having a chat is the best way to feel inspired all over again. It is a huge privilege to listen to and learn from our residents and I’m here to help and support them and their families. I can’t wait to see what Douglas Court and a career with Adept has waiting for me.”
