David Palmer (84) a resident at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross Derbyshire has led his own activities reminiscence session with his fellow residents, as the home promotes independence and resident led activities.
David expressed a wish to lead his very own activity session with the support of the dedicated activities team, for his fellow residents at The Old Vicarage.
David has always had a passion for music, particularly Elvis Presley and Daniel O’Donnell. Since moving into the home, David has joined the resident Choir Club and recently took part in the Annual Christmas Choir Competition held in St.Catherine’s Church, Burbage, Leicestershire, where they were crowned ‘Best Creative Choir’.
“He brought down his own music player, his collection of CD’s and lyric sheets for his fellow residents to follow, that he had prepared in advance. He entertained everyone whilst telling the story about the life of Daniel O’Donnell, describing O’Donnell’s music as a mix of country and Irish folk, that he has sold over ten million records to date and is widely considered a “cultural icon” in Ireland” said Natalie, the Activities Lead at The Old Vicarage.
“It’s been a pleasure to share what makes me happy, my passions with the people I live with,” said David.
Following the questions and answers session they finished the morning with a sing along to a mixture of David’s favourite songs. Many of the residents now want to lead their own session based around their passions, hobbies and interests which will be a regular occurrence now in the New Year.
