The residents at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross have whisked away the top prize in Adept Care Homes’ Annual Cooking Competition, with a 5-course beetroot-themed tasting menu that ‘rooted’ out the competition! The journey began with the grand finale of Adept’s Mystery Seed contest, where residents had to identify the plant or vegetable growing which was beetroot, setting the stage for this year’s culinary showdown.
Bringing together family favourites, original creations, and new discoveries, the residents at The Old Vicarage crafted a beetroot feast to impress. Their winning menu featured an array of vibrant and creative dishes, including: Beetroot Soup, Homemade Beetroot, Walnut, and Sage Bread, Beetroot, Carrot, and Apple Chutney – Perfectly balanced to ‘chut the mustard’, Beetroot Cupcakes and Beetroot, Strawberry, and Apple Smoothies – A refreshing ‘beet’ with a fruity twist.
A resident who led the charge in creating the menu, said, “We really wanted to ‘beet’ expectations this year, and it’s been such fun to work together. Seeing everyone’s ideas come to life was the cherry—or should I say beetroot—on top!”
The judges couldn’t resist The Old Vicarage’s flavour-packed menu, calling it a “feast fit for beetlovers,” as well as a “winning blend of nostalgia and creativity.” The residents worked closely with their kitchen team to perfect each dish, showing how a simple ingredient can ‘sprout’ into something extraordinary when passion is involved.
Adept Care Homes’ annual cooking competition continues to be a celebrated event, inviting residents to ‘stir up’ cherished memories and create new ones together. The Old Vicarage’s win is a proud moment for all, proving once again that their residents and team truly ‘root’ for each other.
