Resident’s Heartfelt Wish was Granted with a Romantic Meal for Two at Douglas Court Care Home

Love was in the air at Douglas Court Care Home as resident John Barnes (88) had his heartfelt wish fulfilled—to enjoy a special sit-down meal with his beloved wife.

Thanks to the home’s ‘Make A Wish’ program, the couple was treated to a beautifully arranged lunch, allowing them to share a precious moment together.

John and his wife began their meal with a warming chicken and mushroom soup, followed by their favourite fish and chips for the main course. A meal they have enjoyed together many times over the years. To finish, they indulged in blueberry sponge for dessert—a sweet ending to a truly memorable afternoon. In a touching gesture, John surprised his wife with a single red rose, making the occasion even more romantic.

“It was such a beautiful moment to witness,” said Hospitality Manager, Naomi Jones “John’s wish was simple but incredibly meaningful—to share a meal with the love of his life. Seeing the joy on their faces reminds us just how important it is to create special experiences for our residents.”

At Douglas Court Care Home, fulfilling residents’ wishes—big or small—is at the heart of what they do, ensuring that every moment spent with loved ones is as special as possible.
