The Old Vicarage Care Home Rejoices in Winning Regional Christmas Choir Competition.

Residents at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross are crowned as Best Creative Choir in Company Wide Regional Christmas Choir Competition.

The residents who form the ‘choir club’ of The Old Vicarage Care Home rejoiced as they were crowned one of the winners of the annual company-wide Christmas Choir Competition, for their performance of Away in a Manger.

It’s become a time-honoured tradition for the midlands based Adept Care Home residents to go head-to-head in the festive, family-favourite singing competition which is held at St. Catherine’s Church in Burbage.

Each of the 7 choirs performed two of their favourite songs, including a Christmas classic, which included a rousing performance of ‘We Wish you a Merry Christmas’ and an original composure of “He’ll be coming down the chimney when he comes”. Whilst also fun, the choirs judged by an experienced panel, including the leader of St Catherine’s church, Father Andrew. The resident choirs enjoyed the rest of the day with festive activities, a fish’n’chips lunch from Burbage Fisheries, home-made mince pies and a tiple or two of mulled wine.

The awards were announced after lunch where residents watched with anticipation as the winners were revealed. The categories included ‘Best Creative Choir’ and ‘Best Traditional Choir.’

“We came up with the idea to set the scene of the nativity to sing Away in a Manager,” said David Palmer (84), resident at The Old Vicarage. “It is fantastic to be crowned a winner, our choir club is one of our favourite activities,” said Mona White (91), resident.

Adept Care Homes Communities Director, Joe Lock said: “Singing is a much-loved past time for our residents, and we have all enjoyed months of practice along with the final performances. The church has been amazingly supportive and with performances of Jingle Bells and Winter Wonderland, we created some festive enjoyment! A huge congratulations to everyone involved in delivering something truly special for our residents.”

“We have had such a wonderful time judging these awards as we do every year, and the performances get better every year. Well done to all the residents and Merry Christmas!” said a representative from the church.
