The Old Vicarage Care Home has been awarded Best for Indoor or Outdoor Communal Space at the prestigious Care Home Awards 2025, in recognition of their transformative work creating vibrant, engaging environments for residents to enjoy.
The award follows the home’s standout 2024 community project: the design and construction of a brand-new pub and beer garden, now affectionately known as The Clay-Cross Keys. Named by the residents themselves, the pub has quickly become the heart of social life at The Old Vicarage—hosting everything from quiz nights and birthday parties to live music and Sunday roasts.

“We’re incredibly proud of this award,” said Jordele Folkes, Home Manager at The Old Vicarage. “The Clay-Cross Keys isn’t just a beautiful space—it’s a place where friendships grow, stories are shared, and laughter is heard daily. It’s proof that care homes can be full of life, joy, and genuine community.”
The Care Home Awards—held in London last week—recognise excellence and innovation across the adult social care sector. The Old Vicarage is part of the Adept Care Homes group, which had a highly successful evening, also collecting awards for:
Best for Food, Dining and Nutrition – Bowood Court
Best Sustainability Initiative – Group-wide win
Specialist Dementia Care – Highly Commended
Outstanding Smaller Care Home Group (up to 10 homes) – Winner for the second year running
Kenny Nelson, Managing Director of Adept Care Homes, said:
“This award reflects our belief that care homes should be real homes—filled with places that bring people together. The Clay-Cross Keys is a shining example of that ethos in action.”
Residents and families alike have embraced the pub and garden as an essential part of daily life, turning ordinary afternoons into extraordinary memories. With its authentic décor, cozy atmosphere, and warm community spirit, The Clay-Cross Keys has set a new standard for communal spaces in care.
