Geoffrey Clayton (81), lifelong Nott’s County FC supporter has always been one of Chetwynd House Care Home’s most independent residents.
Without fail every morning, Geoffrey would walk to the local shops and retrieve his newspaper. Following a fall, he lost his mobility, confidence & independence and would refuse to leave the home without the assistance of the team. He no longer enjoyed walking to the shops or the park or in fact, anywhere.
With the support of the team at Chetwynd House in Nottingham, Geoffrey started working with local physiotherapists, Nottingham Physio, and things began to change. Not only was Geoffrey following his physio’s instructions but he started taking part in various physical activities such as Romila chair-based dance with the other residents and he isn’t going to let lockdown stop him there.
“He is now running rings around us all. We are so proud of his progress. He is determined that Lockdown won’t stop him. Every morning he walks lengths of the home, up and down the stairs, greeting everyone with a beaming smile” – Danielle, Activities Lead at Chetwynd.
“His confidence and health have greatly improved. Geoffrey is now willing to participate in various activities meaning he leads a more fulfilled and enjoyable life doing what he loves – he walked with us at Chetwynd House to raise money for Dementia, he walked the whole 6km around Wollaton Hall for the memory walk, he is amazing” ” – Dave Godrich, Home Manager
“He’s now walking over 3km, climbing 9 flights of stairs & carrying out all his physio exercises daily. Huge thank you to all the support staff, carers and Dave and Jenny at Adept Care Home – Chetwynd House Care Home” – Nottingham Physio.
