Romance blossomed at Douglas Court Care Home in Derby as residents and their loved ones came together for a heartfelt Valentine’s Day filled with love, memories, and meaningful moments.
Devoted couples were at the centre of the celebration, each sharing their special day together. The morning began with live entertainment from singer Sarah Bright, as excitement built ahead of a beautifully prepared couples’ lunch.

Love was truly in the air as residents presented their partners with roses and Valentine’s cards, creating touching moments that reflected years of devotion. Beryl and Alan’s story captured hearts across the home. The pair met when Alan was a school teacher at Beryl’s children’s school, and their romance soon led to a lifelong marriage. Alan also brought along his beloved dog, Scruff, who was warmly welcomed and adored by residents and team members alike.

Pamela and Mark’s love story began at Rolls-Royce in 1971. Their shared passion for countryside drives and travelling together has created decades of treasured memories — and they continue to enjoy those simple pleasures today.
Couples enjoyed a delicious Valentine’s menu of homemade vegetable soup, spaghetti bolognese with garlic bread, and rose Battenberg gâteau, all served in a beautifully decorated dining room designed especially for the occasion.
Sian Rankin, Home Manager at Douglas Court said: “It was such a special day. Seeing our couples together, sharing memories and creating new ones, reminds us that love doesn’t fade — it grows stronger. There wasn’t a dry eye in the room.”
The celebration was a joyful reminder that at Douglas Court, relationships, companionship, and love continue to be cherished every day.
