There was a delicious aroma filling the halls of Douglas Court Care Home in Derby recently, as resident Frances took to the kitchen to cook up a special meal for everyone to enjoy.


Residents at Douglas Court Care Home in Derby made waves recently as three ladies enjoyed a memorable Make A Wish experience with a special trip to the swimming pool.

Devoted couples were at the centre of the celebration, each sharing their special day together. The morning began with live entertainment from singer Sarah Bright, as excitement built ahead of a beautifully prepared couples’ lunch.

Douglas Court Care Home in Derby, part of the Adept Care Homes group, recently held a successful pre-loved clothes sale, bringing residents, families, team members, and the local community together for a day of sustainable shopping and social connection.

There were smiles, laughter and a few happy tears at Douglas Court Care Home in Derby as resident Giles Laurent (61) enjoyed a deeply meaningful Make-a-Wish experience, taking him on a nostalgic journey back to a place filled with treasured memories.
Giles’ wish was to visit Bistro Pierre — a restaurant that holds a very special place in his heart, not only because of the cuisine, but because he once worked there himself. Having lived in France for more than 40 years as a talented and passionate chef, the visit truly felt like a return home. From the familiar aromas to the authentic French flavours, the experience brought Giles’ past vividly to life.

The church was filled with festive cheer as choirs from across Adept Care Homes came together to sing familiar Christmas favourites. Douglas Court’s classic performance earned them the award for Best Traditional Choir.

Douglas Court Care Home residents have once again shown their community spirit by lending a helping hand to Doorways, a local charity dedicated to supporting people facing homelessness.


There were smiles, laughter, and even a few nervous giggles at Douglas Court Care Home in Derby this week, as residents took part in a truly unforgettable day out at the zoo — complete with a close encounter with some very tall, very hungry giraffes!
Organised as part of the home’s ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, the outing was centred around resident Pauline, whose wish was to visit the zoo to fed the animals. She got far more than she bargained for when she was handed a branch of leaves and asked to feed the giraffes — an experience she later admitted was “a little scary, but worth it!”

Under the sparkling lights of the Hilton Hotel in Leicester, Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston proudly took home the coveted “Best for Wellbeing” award at the Adept Awards in Excellence on Wednesday 7th May 2025.
The evening, filled with glamour, live entertainment, and heartfelt celebration, honoured outstanding contributions in care—shining a spotlight on the individuals and teams who make a difference every day.
