Emergency Services Answer the Call… to Karaoke at The Old Vicarage Care Home

Residents and staff at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross, Derbyshire, recently opened their doors to local emergency service workers for a special Blue Light Breakfast — a heartfelt way of saying thank you for their dedication and service to the community.

The event welcomed members of the emergency services, including local firefighters, who joined residents for a relaxed morning of good food, conversation and appreciation. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, with residents delighted to spend time with the real-life heroes who play such an important role in keeping the community safe.

But the morning didn’t stop at breakfast…

In a fun and unexpected twist, the Clay Cross firefighters stayed on to take part in a lively karaoke session alongside resident Peter Wildman (83). The room was soon filled with laughter, music and applause as residents and guests sang along, creating a truly memorable experience for everyone involved.

Peter, a firm favourite at the home’s karaoke sessions, led the entertainment with enthusiasm, encouraging others to join in and enjoy the moment.

“It was such a fantastic morning. The Blue Light Breakfast was our way of showing appreciation, but it turned into something even more special when everyone got involved in the karaoke. Seeing residents and emergency service workers laughing and singing together was just wonderful.”

The event was a perfect example of community spirit at its best — bringing people together, sharing stories and creating joyful moments.

Residents thoroughly enjoyed the visit, with many saying how much it meant to personally thank those who serve the local area.

The Old Vicarage Care Home continues to build strong links within the community, and this special event proved that sometimes, a simple thank you — and a song or two — can go a long way.
