Queen’s Green Canopy is Taking Root in Local Care Home.

Moat House Care Home in Burbage was chosen to host a tree-planting ceremony in their award-winning gardens by Leicestershire County Council to mark Her Majesty, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The residents and team at Moat House Care Home were joined by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant – the Queen’s representative in Leicestershire, to plant a Royal Oak tree for the jubilee, and it’s hoped that other communities across the county will follow suit.

“We are thrilled to have been chosen for such an honor, I love the queen and it’s the perfect way to mark such a special occasion here at Moat House” said Peter Stowe, a resident at Moat House.

The tree will form part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

“The resident’s enjoyed the day and are so pleased with the newest addition to their garden. The tree’s love and care will become an ongoing part of the resident’s annual gardening club.  We hope this will be the first of many trees to be planted in Burbage.” – said Hayley Langley, Home Manager.

This final part of the healthy living and eating campaign tasked residents in the Midlands-based care homes to choose and cook a recipe incorporating their home-grown vegetable which turned out to be ‘the Artichoke’.

“It was so much fun deciding on what to make but we had help from Hazel, our cook. Pastry is such a difficult thing to get right but we made a really good go of it!” said resident Harriett, Douglas Court Resident.
