Each month, residents are encouraged to share their biggest wishes, and the Activities and Wellbeing Team selects one at random to make happen—no matter how big or small.

Bill’s wish was to return to a football stadium to see a live match, and as a devoted Chesterfield supporter, the choice of venue was clear. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Leverton UK, Bill’s wish became a reality in spectacular style.

Bowood Court Care Home is thrilled to announce that its Head Chef, Andrew “Andy” Taylor, has been awarded the prestigious Creed Food Service Care Chef of the Year 2024 title! Competing against some of the top talent in care catering, Andy’s culinary expertise, creativity, and dedication to exceptional care dining won the judges over in the final held at Rugby College on Thursday, October 31st.
At the event, Andy showcased his signature Tuscan Chicken, a vibrant dish inspired by the warm flavours of Italy, along with an IDDSI Level 4 adaptation to meet the needs of diners requiring a texture-modified option. His winning creation combined taste, texture, and presentation, skilfully reflecting the competition’s focus on dishes that are not only flavourful but also adaptable, sustainable, and suitable for all dietary requirements.
The residents at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross have whisked away the top prize in Adept Care Homes’ Annual Cooking Competition, with a 5-course beetroot-themed tasting menu that ‘rooted’ out the competition! The journey began with the grand finale of Adept’s Mystery Seed contest, where residents had to identify the plant or vegetable growing which was beetroot, setting the stage for this year’s culinary showdown.
Bringing together family favourites, original creations, and new discoveries, the residents at The Old Vicarage crafted a beetroot feast to impress. Their winning menu featured an array of vibrant and creative dishes, including: Beetroot Soup, Homemade Beetroot, Walnut, and Sage Bread, Beetroot, Carrot, and Apple Chutney – Perfectly balanced to ‘chut the mustard’, Beetroot Cupcakes and Beetroot, Strawberry, and Apple Smoothies – A refreshing ‘beet’ with a fruity twist.
