Residents at Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston, Derby, gathered to handover their generous donation to local charity, The Lewis Sewell Memorial Trust and Rainbows Hospice. The cheque was presented to Bruno Gambini from The Rainbows Charity on behalf of Gillian Sewell, on this special occasion.

All Aboard for Enhancing Dementia Care at Kiwi House

A unique tour bus is rolling into the Midlands based, award-winning care home, Kiwi House in Derby to provide care workers with a virtual experience of what it is like to live with dementia, this Dementia Action Week (16-22 May).

Team at the Kiwi House Care Home will be among the first to hop on board the specially equipped bus with Dementia Manager, Karen Middleton leading the way.

Kiwi House Care Home in Derby, part of family-run Adept Care Homes, has been recognised with a High Commendation as Outstanding Small Care Provider for the second year running.

The Care Home Awards is one of the most highly regarded accolades available in the UK’s health and social care sector which celebrates the good work, innovative thinking and excellence in care which continue to drive the sector. Manager, Tracy Taylor surprised the residents and the team with the exciting news at Kiwi House.

Award-Winning Excellence For Kiwi House

Kiwi House Care Home scooped two awards for Team Commitment and Lifestyle and Wellbeing at the annual Adept Excellence Awards Gala Night.

The home who prides itself in providing ‘a superb place to live or work’ was recognised for its efforts over the past 12 months.

Kiwi House Celebrates ‘Good Times’ Following Their Latest CQC Inspection

Residents and team at Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston, Derby held a lavish party to celebrate, following their latest inspection by industry watchdog the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Residents and the team at Kiwi House enjoyed the celebration with live entertainment from Vintage Singer, Johnny Victory, party games, food, champagne, and specially made donuts for the occasion from ‘Project D’.

Inspectors made an unannounced visit to Kiwi House Care Home at the end of last year, when they spoke with residents, relatives, and team members, as well as reviewed care records.

The care home received an overall “Good” in the inspection report.

Hark The Herald Angels Sing at Kiwi House Care Home

The children of Landau Forte Academy Moorside visited the residents of Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston, Derby and captivated them with a rendition of their favourite ‘Festive Carols’. 

Residents, some of whom have a passion for music and are part of the Kiwi House ‘Choir Club’ joined in with classics such as Silent Night, Rudolf the red-nosed Reindeer and We Wish You a Merry Christmas.

“It’s so fabulous to see their little faces and wow, can they sing and dance? It’s made my Christmas to have them visit and sing with us” said Anne Hall, a resident at Kiwi House.

Kiwi House Care Home ‘Dig for Victory’ In Magic Seed Competition.

Anne Hall and her fellow residents at Kiwi House Care Home correctly guessed the identity of the vegetable, fruit, or plant growing in the company-wide ‘Magic Seed’ gardening competition as the ‘Artichoke’.

All eight Midlands-based, Adept Care Homes went head-to-head as residents are tasked with the planting, nurturing, and growing their mystery seed for one of this summer’s much-loved gardening competitions. Residents are given only one chance to guess what they are growing!

Barry Freestone (90) a resident at Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston, Derby looks back at fond memories of his time in the Navy, serving with HRH Prince Philip, The Duke of Edinburgh on the eve of his funeral. Barry Says ‘Bon Voyage’ To HRH Prince Philip.

Barry served on HMS Chequers, a destroyer based in Malta which Prince Philip served on for a time before he was promoted to Lieutenant Commander, when the Duke finally took command of his own ship, the frigate HMS Magpie.

Residents go vegan and discover there is far more to Veganuary than ‘meats’ the eye!

With veganism becoming one of the UK’s fastest-growing lifestyle movements and with an estimated 7,000 vegetarians and vegans in residential and nursing care homes, Hospitality Manager, Rebecca Lambert at Kiwi House decided to introduce residents to the plant-based diet by holding a vegan festival during the month of January, or better known as ‘Veganuary’.

“I am taking part in Veganuary this year and when the residents heard about it, they asked me: “What can you eat? Can you still eat chocolates and sweets? Don’t you miss meat?” I wanted to show them how diverse and interesting vegan food can be.”
