Moat House Care Home in Burbage, part of family-run Adept Care Homes, has been crowned ‘Winner’ and Best for Staff Retention and Recruitment in the national Care Home Awards 2022. The Adept Care Homes group of 8 homes, including Moat House also received a High Commendation for Outstanding Small Care Provider for the second year running.

The Care Home Awards is one of the most highly regarded accolades available in the UK’s health and social care sector which celebrates the good work, innovative thinking and excellence in care which continue to drive the sector. Adept’s Directors surprised the residents and the team with the exciting news at Moat House.

Award-Winning Excellence For Moat House

Moat House Care Home scooped two awards for Team Commitment and Lifestyle and Wellbeing at the annual Adept Excellence Awards Gala Night.

The home who prides itself in providing ‘a superb place to live or work’ was recognised for its efforts over the past 12 months.

“We are also proud that we have achieved the lifestyle & wellbeing award. The wellbeing of our residents is always paramount in everything we do, and life at Kiwi House is designed to provide a full range of enriching physical, mental and emotional wellbeing. Queen’s Green Canopy is Taking Root in Local Care Home.

Moat House Care Home in Burbage was chosen to host a tree-planting ceremony in their award-winning gardens by Leicestershire County Council to mark Her Majesty, The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in 2022.

The residents and team at Moat House Care Home were joined by the Vice Lord-Lieutenant – the Queen’s representative in Leicestershire, to plant a Royal Oak tree for the jubilee, and it’s hoped that other communities across the county will follow suit.

“We are thrilled to have been chosen for such an honor, I love the queen and it’s the perfect way to mark such a special occasion here at Moat House” said Peter Stowe, a resident at Moat House.

The tree will form part of the Queen’s Green Canopy, a unique tree-planting initiative created to mark the Platinum Jubilee.

“The resident’s enjoyed the day and are so pleased with the newest addition to their garden. The tree’s love and care will become an ongoing part of the resident’s annual gardening club.  We hope this will be the first of many trees to be planted in Burbage.” – said Hayley Langley, Home Manager.

Moat House Care Home Proudly Present Cheque to The Dave Willetts Foundation.

Residents at Moat House Care Home gathered as the TV & West End star paid them a special visit to witness the handover of their generous donation to his charity, The Dave Willets Foundation.

The cheque was presented to Dave, who was joined by his partner Lynn, for the special occasion.  Phantom of the Opera star, Dave Willets, who has been one of the country’s leading musical actors for years, founded The Dave Willetts Foundation to help those who are living with Dementia.

New Barber Shop Creating a ‘Buzz’ at Moat House Care Home

Local Barbershop, Roni’s Turkish Barber is ‘a cut above the rest’ as they recreate the traditional barbershop experience, free of charge for the male residents of Moat House Care Home in Burbage.

Every month, the home’s salon is transformed into a traditional makeshift barbershop.  A special barber’s style chair is set up and a waiting area is established in the lobby. With an abundance of social activities, ranging from footy highlights, musicals to even episodes of ‘Open all Hours’, the gents never know what treats are in store!

It’s a Family Affair at Moat House Care Home

Sisters are residing together at Moat House Care Home.

There’s not a hint of sibling rivalry when you meet Leicestershire-born sisters, Marylin (85) and Lily (89). In fact, you’d say the exact opposite of the pair who are so close, they’ve chosen to live together at Moat House Care Home in Burbage, Leicestershire.

“I love my sister more than anything, I originally moved to Moat House because I didn’t want to be alone and the home has such a community feel and I used to visit our older sister who was a resident here and the home and team have been incredible and now Lily has joined me it really does feel like home,” said Marylin

Residents at Moat House Care Home gathered in the sunshine to witness the handover of their generous donation to local charity, Edgar’s gift. The cheque was presented to Chair of Edgar’s gift, David Clarke, who was joined by his partner Molly, for the special occasion.

Edgar’s gift is a charity set up in 2010 in memory of Ben Edkins (nickname Edgar), who passed away following a yearlong fight with cancer. The charity provides gifts and unique experiences for young adults aged 18-30 suffering from cancer, such as use of the charities static caravan on the east coast of Lincolnshire which they use to offer free holidays to cancer patients and their families/friends.

The cheque was presented to Branch Chairman, Lloyd Bagshaw who was joined by other members of the RBL and Ron’s children, Ian and Barbara, as part of the VE Day celebrations held in the gardens at Moat House Care Home. The donation from the residents who’s fundraising efforts will help place a commemorative bench, ‘pride of place’ in front of the war memorial in Argents Mead to honour of Ron.

Moat House Care Home Helps Hinckley Based Homeless Charity

Residents at Burbage-based Moat House Care Home proudly presented a cheque on behalf of the home for an astounding £25,000 to Emmaus, a Hinckley based homeless charity.

Dave Lock, Managing Director for Moat House said, “When I heard about the amazing work Emmaus do in our local community and how fundraising has been increasingly difficult with the closure of its charity shops during covid restrictions, we knew we had to help.”

Emmaus supports people to work their way out of homelessness, providing meaningful work, training, support and a stable home for as long as someone needs it in Leicestershire and Rutland.
