A unique tour bus is rolling into the Midlands based, award-winning care home, The Old Vicarage in Clay Cross to provide care workers with a virtual experience of what it is like to live with dementia, this Dementia Action Week (16-22 May).

Team at the The Old Vicarage Care Home will be among the first to hop on board the specially equipped bus with Dementia Manager, Karen Middleton leading the way.

The Old Vicarage Hosts A Community Easter Egg Hunt That Has Everyone ‘Hopping’ with Delight

Residents at local care home, The Old Vicarage, in Clay Cross, Derbyshire enjoyed a visit from the local children of the 1st Tupton Beavers for an Easter Egg Hunt in the garden.

Young and old enjoyed the fun of an Easter egg hunt after the children of the 1st Tupton Beavers, Chesterfield Scouts were invited to the care home for a grand search in the care home grounds hosted by the world-famous Easter Bunny.

‘Wool’ You Look at That! Alpaca’s visit The Old Vicarage.

Residents at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Chesterfield were surprised by two fluffy Alpaca visitors during their afternoon tea in the garden. The loveable and curious animals which traditionally originate from Peru and are known for their beautiful soft fur, were met with cheers, gasps, laughter and even a few surprised faces when they took a guided tour around the home’s grounds and mature gardens. In fact, resident, Florence (91) said, “aren’t they just amazing, what beautiful and unique animals!“

Natalie Smith, Lifestyle & Activities Lead, who supported the dedicated team in making the special visit possible said, “it was so wonderful to see the joy on each and every resident’s faces when they got to meet the alpacas, feeding them carrots and feeling how soft their fur is. What a memorable experience had by all!”

Colin Barnett, a relative said” It’s so lovely seeing all the great things you do for your residents. Thank you so much for looking after them so well.”

Home Manager Lynn Bennett said, “The residents, their families and the team thoroughly enjoyed it and it was an absolute delight to see the reaction on the resident’s faces when they met the alpacas. A day to remember! Our lifestyle and wellbeing program is designed around our residents and their passions. Here in the Derbyshire dales a lot of our residents have fond past times of animals and farms and this was truly special for them.”

Bob, (Robert Jessup, 94) said “it was such a lovely surprise and so nice to have such wonderful visitors, they are so fluffy and soft, they would make great jumpers” as he chuckled.

Local care home welcomes new residents

The family-run home in the heart of Clay Cross has been welcoming new residents as the home sees a glimmer of normality following the global pandemic. Meet Beryl, one of the new residents at Old Vicarage.

“I moved to Old Vicarage as I was finding it increasingly difficult to manage at home but since moving, I have been so happy and had the best time.” explained Beryl.

Activities Coordinator, Natalie Smith and her son Olly (9) are 'climbing mountains' to raise funds for the resident's social fund at The Old Vicarage Care Home, Clay Cross.

Activities Coordinator, Natalie Smith and her son Olly (9) are attempting to climb Mount Snowdon on July 10th 2021, to raise funds for the resident’s social fund at The Old Vicarage Care Home, Clay Cross.

Natalie works as part of the designated activities teams and wants to enhance the already dynamic activities and social program, by raising money, her aim is to increase the number of tailored outings, activities, and entertainment which are purposefully designed to be meaningful to each individual resident already living with dementia at The Old Vicarage.
