Clay Cross couple celebrate 70 years of marriage at The Old Vicarage

Clifford (95) and Doris Salt (93), recently celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary, 70 years after their marriage on the 1st July 1950.

The pair, now residents of the Old Vicarage care home in Claycross, met at the local social club in 1949 and fell in love over their passion for dancing. For Cliff it was love at first sight. “ I was really taken with her the moment we first met” and it didn’t stop there, “ we loved to dance together so every week we would go to the ballroom in Blackpool tower and dance the night away in each other’s arms,” said Cliff.

“70 years is a long time and we just had to make it special for them. We invited their family to use the homes’ outdoor visiting area for the day so they could safely join them to celebrate their very special day. They all had a wonderful day together” –Chris, Home Manager.

When asked what advice they would give to others, Cliff laughed and said “ I always joke about this, but in honesty, if you find the right one never let them go, my secret is let the lady decide on things and you will always get a better result. 70 years later and I still think the world of her.”

“I think the secrets to their long marriage are having a sense of humor, patience, understanding, loyalty and realising that the small things are actually the big things in life. It’s clear just watching them that true love really does exist and it’s right here at the Old Vicarage.” Concluded Karen, Lifestyle Manager.
