Bowood Court Resident June Honoured by the Royal British Legion

Redditch, UK – The team and residents at Bowood Court Care Home are beaming with pride as 93-year-old June Cooke has once again been celebrated for her remarkable dedication to the Royal British Legion (RBL).

June, who touched hearts last year with her mission to knit 90 poppies for Remembrance Day, has now received a special certificate of thanks from the RBL. This heartfelt recognition comes after June helped the organisation raise an incredible £52,000 in Redditch over the past year.

Curtain Up on a Dream Day: Harrier House Residents Enjoy Theatre Wish Come True

Hucknall, Nottinghamshire, UK – It was lights, music, and magic for three residents of Harrier House Care Home, who saw their special wish come true with an unforgettable trip to the theatre.

Joyce Pearson (92), Margaret Barlow (96), and their good friend Ivan “Dick” King (94) spent a joyous afternoon watching the beloved musical Fiddler on the Roof, as part of Harrier House’s Make a Wish programme.

The trio, all passionate about theatre and live performance, were thrilled from the moment the curtain rose. They laughed, sang along to familiar songs, and soaked up every moment of the colourful show.

Sunflowers in Full Bloom: Adept Care Homes Celebrate Annual Gardening Competition

Residents across Adept Care Homes have once again put their green fingers to the test in the much-loved Annual Sunflower Competition, with this year’s tallest bloom reaching an incredible 9ft 4in (285cm) at Moat House Care Home.

The competition is a highlight of the year for residents and teams alike. It all begins with a celebratory planting session in spring, when residents plant not only sunflowers but also vegetables and other flowers as part of a wider gardening tradition. Exactly 100 days later, Grounds Manager Richard Mee makes his rounds with the measuring stick to determine which home’s sunflower stands the tallest.

Oh What Joy! Resident Takes the Reins in Carriage-Driving Adventure at Kiwi House

Residents and team at Kiwi House Care Home in Alvaston, Derby were all smiles as one very special wish came true for much-loved resident Joy, thanks to the home’s Make a Wish programme.

Joy Plumb (90), who has always had a passion for horses, wished for the chance to go carriage driving – and her dream became reality with a magical trip to Wenlo Riding for the Disabled.

The day was made even more special by the warm welcome from Dawn and her wonderful team of volunteers, who greeted Joy and her companions with tea and delicious cakes before the adventure began. Joy was joined by her son Kevin and five close friends from Kiwi House, making it a true community celebration.

Seaside Dreams Come True – Chetwynd House Residents Swap Armchairs for Deckchairs, Sandy Toes and Happy Hearts

Chilwell, Nottingham, UK – For four residents of Chetwynd House Care Home, a trip down memory lane became reality this week as their special wish to revisit Ingoldmells was granted.

Pauline Peet (89), Phyllis Truman (83), Anne White (92), and Dorothy “Dody” Jackson (92) all shared the same heartfelt wish – to return to the seaside town where they had enjoyed happy memories in years gone by. Surrounded by team, friends, and plenty of sunshine, that wish came true.

The day was everything they had hoped for – from feeling the sand between their fingers and soaking up the sea air, to enjoying a spot of shopping along the front and tucking into traditional fish and chips by the beach.

At Moat House Care Home in Burbage Leicestershire, one resident is bringing colour, life, and a whole lot of green-fingered passion to the gardens – with a little help from the care home’s Groundskeeper, Richard Mee.

Anne Fairlie (91), a lifelong gardening enthusiast and Moat House resident, has teamed up with Richard and the Activities Team to nurture and grow young plants and seedlings that will go on to brighten the grounds of not only Moat House, but also other Adept Care Homes across the Midlands.

Brenda, who spent decades building her reputation for friendliness, hard work, and customer service at Sainsbury’s, has found new purpose in her role as the in-house shopkeeper at Kiwi House’s popular onsite corner shop.
