Paul Davies (60), a long-time resident and passionate environmentalist, has become the beating heart of Douglas Court’s green efforts. As the enthusiastic leader of the home’s Gardening and Sustainability Group, Paul has been instrumental in bringing sustainable practices to life — from composting and recycling to planting pollinator-friendly flowers and herbs for the kitchen.

Green-Fingered Resident Anne Helps Gardens Bloom at Local Care Home

At Moat House Care Home in Burbage Leicestershire, one resident is bringing colour, life, and a whole lot of green-fingered passion to the gardens – with a little help from the care home’s Groundskeeper, Richard Mee.

Anne Fairlie (91), a lifelong gardening enthusiast and Moat House resident, has teamed up with Richard to nurture and grow young plants and seedlings that will go on to brighten the grounds of not only Moat House, but also other Adept Care Homes across the Midlands.

Brenda, who spent decades building her reputation for friendliness, hard work, and customer service at Sainsbury’s, has found new purpose in her role as the in-house shopkeeper at Kiwi House’s popular onsite corner shop.

Held on Saturday 5th July, the day was filled with sunshine, smiles, and the vibrant sounds of live music, creating a joyful festival atmosphere right in the heart of Derby. Guests enjoyed a jam-packed schedule of entertainment, delicious food and drink, a popular festival glam station, and fun-filled garden games — all capped off by a showstopping performance from the home’s very own Kiwi Chorus Choir at 4pm.

A Century of Love Restored: The Old Vicarage Resident’s Beloved Teddy Bear Gets a New Lease on Life

A well-loved teddy bear with over 100 years of cuddles and memories has been lovingly restored, thanks to a touching wish granted by The Old Vicarage Care Home in partnership with Adept Care Homes’ Make a Wish program.

Ann, an 80-year-old resident at the Derbyshire home, recently fulfilled her lifelong dream of giving her treasured childhood bear a well-earned pampering. Originally her mother’s toy, this cherished teddy has been by Ann’s side for eight decades, dressed in hand-knitted clothes and steeped in family history.

Douglas Court Care Home Resident Feeds Giraffes in Once-in-a-Lifetime ‘Make a Wish’ Trip to the Zoo!

There were smiles, laughter, and even a few nervous giggles at Douglas Court Care Home in Derby this week, as residents took part in a truly unforgettable day out at the zoo — complete with a close encounter with some very tall, very hungry giraffes!

Organised as part of the home’s ‘Make a Wish’ initiative, the outing was centred around resident Pauline, whose wish was to visit the zoo to fed the animals. She got far more than she bargained for when she was handed a branch of leaves and asked to feed the giraffes — an experience she later admitted was “a little scary, but worth it!”

Organised by Championing Social Care, the national relay brought together care workers, residents, families, and the local Hucknall community to celebrate the vital work of the social care sector and promote health, connection, and pride in care. Harrier House served as both the starting and finishing point for the Nottingham leg of the five-day nationwide event for Care Home Open Week.
