When Roy Kibble (89) arrived at Local Care Home, Harrier House in Hucknall, he was asked one simple question: “What’s your wish for the year?” As part of the care home’s “Make a Wish” program, which sees over 500 residents share their hopes and dreams, Roy’s wish stood out. Due to declining mobility, it had been over three years since he had last met with his close friends at Titchfield Park—a place where they spent many happy years together playing bowls, eating cake, and sipping coffee.

Understanding how much this reunion meant to Roy, the team at Harrier House swung into action. This wasn’t just another wish; it was a mission to bring joy to someone who deserved it.

The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross recently turned a heartfelt wish into a wondrous reality for one of their cherished residents, Franky (Frances Noble 81), through their magical “Make a Wish” program. This special initiative is designed to fulfil residents’ dreams, no matter how big or small, bringing joy and creating unforgettable memories.

For Franky, the wish was simple yet profoundly meaningful: to return to Spring Farm, her home and workplace for nearly 60 years. From 1964 until 2023, Franky and her husband George dedicated their lives to running the farm, which is now lovingly managed by her family. The farm holds a treasure trove of memories, and Franky’s wish to visit once more was eagerly embraced by the care home team.

The visit brought immense joy and excitement, as the residents had the opportunity to have the baby goats sit on their laps, feed them treats, and play with them as the goats wagged their tails in delight.

One resident, Kath, was particularly thrilled by the visit. Her face lit up with amazement as she asked numerous questions about the playful animals, showcasing the profound impact that animal interactions can have on the wellbeing of the elderly. “They are wonderful, look at their little horns” said Kath.
