Former teacher Judy connects with local school children
Judy Pass, 73, a former school teacher has enjoyed meeting young people once again, thanks to an intergenerational social club with her care home and Birchensale Primary School.
“I used to be a teacher in the local area and it was absolutely great to have the school children visit the home to entertain us. I loved playing games with Leah, we had lots of fun,” said Judy a resident at Bowood Court & Mews Care Home in Redditch.
Judy and Leah met at Bowood’s new social club which sees residents and children come together to have fun and socialise doing everything from playing games to singing and baking!
“At the care home it was really nice and we all had a great time. We got to play Bingo and made cakes with some of the residents, some of the others did arts and crafts. The residents were really nice to talk to and we enjoyed spending time with them,’ said Leah.
“The visit to Bowood Court & Mews provided a unique and fantastic experience for our children. It was great to see two different generations interacting and conversing in such a positive way through activities in which all could access and enjoy. As our school and the care home are so close it was great to build this link into the wider community and share the caring and welcoming nature of our pupils with others. The children haven’t stopped talking about the visit since and can’t wait to go back in the future,” added Mr Crooke from Birchendale Primary School.
Dawn Leaver, Bowood Court & Mews Manager concluded: “It’s so wonderful to see the children and the visit was such a success we plan to add this club to our existing list of social clubs that areso popular with our residents.
“The children are not shy at all and happily speak and interact with the residents. Our residents find it so rewarding and it shows that there are no age boundaries when it comes to making friends. The children bring their joy, laughter, and innocence into the home and their visits encourage residents to share their own parental and sometimes childhood memories. It’s just so heart-warming to watch and is a fantastic way to ensure our residents continue to interact with our local community,”
