His winning creation combined taste, texture, and presentation, skilfully reflecting the competition’s focus on dishes that are not only flavourful but also adaptable, sustainable, and suitable for all dietary requirements.
The residents at The Old Vicarage Care Home in Clay Cross have whisked away the top prize in Adept Care Homes’ Annual Cooking Competition, with a 5-course beetroot-themed tasting menu that ‘rooted’ out the competition! The journey began with the grand finale of Adept’s Mystery Seed contest, where residents had to identify the plant or vegetable growing which was beetroot, setting the stage for this year’s culinary showdown.

Their winning menu featured an array of vibrant and creative dishes, including: Beetroot Soup, Homemade Beetroot, Walnut, and Sage Bread, Beetroot, Carrot, and Apple Chutney – Perfectly balanced to ‘chut the mustard’, Beetroot Cupcakes and Beetroot, Strawberry, and Apple Smoothies – A refreshing ‘beet’ with a fruity twist.
