Douglas Court Hosts A Community Easter Egg Hunt That Has Everyone ‘Hopping’ with Delight

Residents at local care home, Douglas Court, Derby enjoyed a visit from local children for an Easter Egg Hunt in the garden.

Young and old enjoyed the fun of an Easter egg hunt after children of resident’s families, Douglas Court care team and local community groups were invited to the care home for a grand search in the care home grounds.   

Residents and team hid colourful eggs around the garden for the children to find. One resident, Jean (89) said “It’s so nice to see them all running around the garden looking for the eggs we have hidden with big smiles on their faces. We are thrilled to be part of such a lovely day.”

Douglas Court Care Home Receives High Commendation in Prestigious National Care Home Awards

Douglas Court Care Home in Derby, part of family-run Adept Care Homes, has been recognised with a High Commendation as Outstanding Small Care Provider for the second year running.

The Care Home Awards is one of the most highly regarded accolades available in the UK’s health and social care sector which celebrates the good work, innovative thinking and excellence in care which continue to drive the sector. Manager, Colleen McKay surprised the residents and the team with the exciting news at Douglas Court.

Local Care Home is Crowned ‘Master Chefs’ in the Resident Cooking Competition!

Resident Chefs Put Culinary Skills to the Test in Cooking Competition

Residents from a local care homes Douglas Court in Derby have been crowned winner of a regional ‘Master Chef style’ cooking competition.

The competition formed part of an ongoing competition by Adept Care Homes, which started with residents growing their own ‘mystery seed’ as part of the gardening club launch in the Spring, this year. This final part of the healthy living and eating campaign tasked residents in the Midlands-based care homes to choose and cook a recipe incorporating their home-grown vegetable which turned out to be ‘the Artichoke’.

“It was so much fun deciding on what to make but we had help from Hazel, our cook. Pastry is such a difficult thing to get right but we made a really good go of it!” said resident Harriett, Douglas Court Resident.

Douglas Court provide a tasty food dining experience

Our residents have been exploring the world of flavour through weekly taster sessions. The food tasting experiences took residents on a gastronomic journey through a host of new dishes and flavours to find out what they would like to see more of on future menus.

The ‘Flavours from around the world’ taster session gave residents the opportunity to try exciting new foods from Italy, India, and the Caribbean.  

“The taster sessions went down a real treat with all the residents. We regularly encourage feedback about the food on our menus, so this was a great opportunity to get that feedback whilst having a lot of fun! We will definitely be planning more taster sessions in the future as part of our social programme.” mentioned Kate Gilvear, Home Manager.

‘And They’re Off’…. To Celebrate Joan’s Milestone 100th Birthday

Joan Daniels (100), celebrated her 100th Birthday at her home, Douglas Court Care Home in Derby. Joan has only one surviving relative, a niece, who surprised her with a visit on the morning of her birthday.

Douglas Court, who usually celebrates every resident’s birthday with an extravagant party and a special visit from their family, wanted to make this birthday extra special. Douglas Court’s team arranged a ‘day at the races’ and a special delivery to surprise the centurion. With a special guest, Alfie the Horse delivering a bouquet of flowers and the Queen’s telegram, together with lavish birthday celebrations, a royal themed garden tea party and live entertainment to mark this, her milestone 100th birthday.
